Okay, so I had only been given a maximum of 16 pages to illustrate this book, and with the title page, that meant that page 15 was it. Corny lines ("they were happy; they had made a new friend") aside, it really does close things out a little too quickly to say "after Anna gave her father the medicine..." The famous author Mark Twain once said, "Don't just SAY the woman screamed: bring her out and let her scream!" This means that it's best to draw things out in the story so that it feels more natural, but here I had run out of pages, and had set up a plot exposition that was never to be shown. As a result, we never get to see Anna's father (not here, anyway; we'll see him in my comic series though).

kenisu3000	Prologue - Page 14: Unwanted Visitors	kenisu - #14 The line "George use to be a journalist" is my tribute to the Encyclopedia Mother, which gives a more detailed account of the history of George and Maria (tells how they got together and fell in love, etc.). By the time I finally got the Encyclopedia (a couple of months back?), I had already had in my head more-or-less what I wanted the entire prologue to encompass, so when I translated the George-and-Maria backstory in the Encyclopedia, I found that account didn't fit 100% with mine, and it was too late to change the pages I had already illustrated, and I was also unwilling to change the ideas I had for the remainder of the prologue. However, I was able to work in the idea that George was a big-time journalist for a famous newspaper, and that his work was what brought him to Mothersday Town, where he met Maria. However, it's only this wink that connects my story with the Encyclopedia's.	9/30/06
kenisu3000	Prologue - Page 15: The Crowd is Going Wild	kenisu - #15 In starting this page, I found myself lost. I knew how I wanted this scene to culminate (you'll see what happens in the next page), but had no clue as to how to bring it about. This was one of those moments where picking up the pencil and just drawing it panel-by-panel enlightened me, so that I knew what direction to take. It was quite a miraculous touch-and-go, and I'm really pleased with how it turned out.	10/7/06
kenisu3000	Prologue - Page 16: Constant Vigilance!	kenisu - #16 Trying to explain some of the WHYs and HOWs of a story tends to get a little hokey and unbelievable in my case. Just bear with me and accept it as gospel: James WOULD have heard that window opening (even if he were asleep... or tending to his crops... or in town...). I was so half-tempted to have James bark "Constant Vigilance!!!" after his "I would hear the window being opened" line :)	11/6/06
kenisu3000	Prologue - Page 17: Town Anxiety	kenisu - #17 Ever since I finished EB Zero back in 2000, whenever I imagined George poring over his notes, I pictured him sitting at a scanty table in a dark, dank basement scene. It feels soooo nice to be able to put these long-time mental images on paper. Also, I was originally going to color the mayor's over-vest red, but then when I looked at the next-to-last panel (where he's silencing Suzannah), I realized that I made him look awfully Russian, so instead, I colored his vest blue. And speaking of Suzannah, I think I may have made yet another historical oopsie here: back in those days, women had very few privileges, so what are several women doing at a TOWN COUNCIL MEETING? Of course, from the very beginning, I knew I wanted the characters to have some sort of audience with the mayor to discuss the situation with George, but originally it was supposed to be a small enclosed meeting with her, James, a FEW involved townsfolk, and the mayor; but eventually it evolved into a full-out town council meeting. At any rate, I needed Suzannah present to be able to move the story forward. So I fudged a little.	11/6/06
